In 2002 we moved to a new universal mounting system for all of our RockNobs. We went to this new system for a number of reasons. First, we wanted to make it easier for our distributors by reducing the amount of parts to stock (i.e. extra thread kits), while at the same time simplifying the ordering and customer service process. A single universal insert is a natural solution to that problem. Second, we were receiving a lot of calls from customers who really wanted a RockNob but the threads on their shift lever were not one of the standard sizes we have available.

When researching and designing this new product enhancement we looked at a lot of other companies "universal" mounting methods and were not satified with their quality and performance. So, instead of buying an existing system from another supplier, we designed and tested our own system. We machine a solid piece of high grade alumnimum stock into a sturdy master insert. Then we designed closely tolerenced plastic injection molded shims to fit a range of shift lever diameters (this part insures no vibrations from the vehicle loosen the set screws). Finally, we use three knurled tip set screws instead of the more common two to insure a tight fit that will last a long time.

Before releasing this new enhancement we tested it extensively for months on real vehicles during day to day use. They are all still installed after 6 months of normal use and have not budged.
